JNA offer practical umpire training to all umpires during the season as well as theoretical sessions. We are committed to helping our umpires progress along their umpire journey.

Umpires Information Meeting

This meeting is for all continuing umpires and those intending to umpire in 2024. TBA.  At this meeting you will hear about JNA’s expectations for commitment, training and behaviour. You will also find out about umpiring requirements (prerequisites and equipment).

Whistle Up

This is a course for those new to umpiring. It will be broken into sections and presented by a number of JNA’s experienced umpires. Topics to be covered include:

• Why do we need umpires?
• What are the rules?
• Presentation 
• Whistle/voice technique
• Hand signals
• Areas of control
• Setting penalties
• Positioning
•  Equipment required

Umpires must attend both sessions. The cost of this course is $15. Participants will receive a Training Booklet and whistle. Register and pay through Netball Connect shop.

On the Ball

This is a course for those umpiring at Intermediate A and Cadet level. It will be broken into sections and presented by a number of JNA’s experienced umpires. Topics to be covered include:

• Position, vision, timing
• Fitness
• Contact/fair contest
• Game management

Umpires must attend both sessions. The cost of this course is $15. Participants will receive a Training Booklet and whistle. Register and pay through Netball Connect shop.
